Porter Airlines, Canada’s third-largest carrier, has received a scheduled international license from the Canadian Transportation Agency to operate flights to Morocco on a codeshare basis, alongside similar approvals for Turkiye and Brazil.
Under a codeshare arrangement, Porter will market and sell seats on Morocco-bound flights operated by its partner Air Transat under a shared flight code – a common commercial arrangement in aviation that expands a carrier’s network without requiring it to operate the aircraft itself. The two airlines have been in a joint venture partnership since November 2023.
The approval gives Porter access to Air Transat’s existing Montreal-Marrakech route, launched in 2024, and positions it to benefit from the airline’s forthcoming Montreal-Agadir service.
Air Transat is set to inaugurate that route on June 12 – the first direct connection between North America and the kingdom’s main Atlantic resort city – operating every Friday aboard an Airbus A321LR.
The move comes as Canadian interest in Morocco has climbed steadily. More than 174,000 Canadian visitors traveled to Morocco through August 2025, marking a 29% rise over the same period the previous year, according to Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT). That figure has pushed Canada into the list of priority markets for Moroccan tourism authorities.
That growing attention was captured in a December 2025 feature by Le Journal de Montréal, which included Morocco among its top seven recommended winter sun destinations.
The publication told its readers that Morocco “will dazzle you with its animated souks, lush gardens, legendary hospitality, and cuisine synonymous with colors and spices.”
It is noted that winter brings fewer crowds and a quieter side of Marrakech, with Essaouira and Agadir also worth the trip – particularly for travelers seeking sun without tropical heat.
Air Transat, a subsidiary of Transat A.T. Inc. and three-time Skytrax winner of the “World’s Best Leisure Airline” title, is the operational backbone behind Porter’s expanded international reach.
Beyond Morocco, Air Transat launched its Toronto-Istanbul service in December 2025 and began Montreal-Rio de Janeiro flights earlier this year.
