The Honourable Anita Anand, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Living Abroad.
During their discussions, the two ministers reviewed various aspects of relations between Canada and the Kingdom of Morocco. They reaffirmed their commitment to a renewed bilateral relationship based on mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and openness, as well as their shared desire to strengthen and revitalize it as partners.

Recognizing the importance of the Western Sahara issue to Morocco, Minister Anand took note of the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 on October 31, 2025.
She affirmed that Canada recognizes Morocco’s autonomy plan for Western Sahara as the basis for a mutually acceptable solution and as a serious and credible initiative toward a just and lasting settlement of the conflict.
In this context, the Minister of Canada stressed the need to achieve a lasting, just, and mutually acceptable political settlement, in accordance with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations and the relevant Security Council resolutions.
Minister Anand expressed her interest in making an official visit to Morocco in the coming weeks, and the two ministers agreed to work toward this goal in order to deepen the dialogue on relations between the two countries and intensify discussions on Western Sahara.
