Morocco’s pivotal role in countering organized transnational crime took center stage at a recent meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council (AU PSC).
During the session, which focused on developing African strategies to tackle these threats, the Moroccan delegation highlighted the Kingdom’s active participation in global initiatives. Notably, this includes Morocco’s 2023 chairmanship of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB).
Morocco further emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation, specifically through the G4 framework (comprising Morocco, Spain, France, and Portugal). The delegation also reaffirmed its commitment to the Global Coalition to Address Synthetic Drug Threats and pointed to concrete successes in foiling psychotropic smuggling operations and dismantling criminal networks.
Morocco’s Permanent Representative to the AU and the PSC, Ambassador Mohamed Arrouchi, recalled the Kingdom’s leading role in African migration governance. Under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, the AU leader on the issue of migration, Morocco has spearheaded the African Agenda on Migration and implemented structured national strategies to manage migratory flows effectively.
In his address, the Moroccan diplomat called for an integrated and coordinated African response to counter the evolving nature of transnational crime, which continues to jeopardize peace and development across the continent. He stressed that a successful response must be grounded in coordination, the pooling of expertise and synergy of strategic approaches.
