Morocco has established itself as a genuine model in water resource management thanks to a proactive and comprehensive policy, President of the World Water Council Loïc Fauchon said on Wednesday in Marrakech.
Speaking at the opening of the 9th International Exhibition for Water, Sanitation and Energy Technologies (SITeau), Fauchon said “the Kingdom is widely admired for its forward-looking approach to water governance and its mastery of water management and mobilization technologies.”
He noted that these achievements reflect recognized expertise and Moroccan excellence to be shared internationally, describing the Kingdom as “at the forefront” in the water sector.
Fauchon then stressed the need to address global water challenges, including scarcity, population and urban growth, and increasing droughts and floods, through action-oriented solutions, with innovation and technology playing a central role in ensuring sustainable and resilient water management.
For his part, Secretary-General of the High Commission for Planning (HCP) Ayache Khellaf highlighted the importance of long-term studies and comprehensive approaches to address water-related challenges, stressing the need to anticipate future changes and strengthen territorial resilience against climate and environmental risks.
Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, SITeau is organized in partnership with the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), the Moroccan Water Coalition (COALMA), and Marrakech’s Cadi Ayyad University, among other institutional and media partners.
The event features a scientific program including the “Intergenerational 4 Water” meeting on the water-energy-agriculture-health nexus, as well as activities such as a competition promoting eco-friendly golf, an exhibition on water-related professions, and educational workshops for children on water citizenship.
