French media outlets are buzzing following the stunning performance Morocco’s rising star Ayyoub Bouaddi delivered in the national team’s World Cup opener against Brazil on Saturday.
Le Tribunal du Net (TDN) expressed regret to see the Moroccan Atlas Lion showing an outstanding performance for Morocco.
“Ayyoub Bouaddi.. Will never wear the French national team jersey in a competitive match. Worse still, his performance against Brazil has just shown that this loss could haunt les Bleus for the next decade,” the news outlet said.
French news outlet L’Equipe acknowledged how Bouaddi impressed “everyone” during his performance.
“Ayyoub Bouaddi seems to have a habit of shining on big first occasions – especially when the spotlight is brightest,” the sports outlet said, recalling his dazzling display against Brazil.
International outlets also joined the acclaim, with many describing the Atlas Lions’ performance as a master class.
The New York Times’ The Athletic described Bouaddi’s performance as a “display worthy of its own standing ovation,” noting that talents often light up World Cups but rarely do so from central midfield.
The Athletic also recalled his journey beyond football, stating that his game intelligence “belies his tender years is perhaps unsurprising given his academic background.”
The outlet recalled that the Atlas Lion is studying for a degree in mathematics.
“And it is clear that geometry is a strong suit, given his instinctive understanding of space and where to position himself,” the Athletic wrote.
Bouaddi’s World Cup debut with the Atlas Lions was enough for international clubs to set their radars on the youngster.
Several reports suggested Bouaddi is under the radar of Arsenal. Goal also suggested that Arsenal has to compete with PSG and Chelsea “who are also closely tracking the midfielder’s development.”
Morocco’s national team opened its World Cup campaign with a 1-1 draw against the five-time World Cup title holder on Saturday.
