Scottish striker Lyndon Dykes has expressed his full readiness to lead his national team in this Friday’s highly anticipated match against Morocco as part of the second round of the group stage.
“I’m always ready, and I give my best every time I wear the national team shirt,” the striker told ESPN on Tuesday. I put my heart on the pitch and give everything for the team. I’m ready for any role the coach asks of me, whether I start or come off the bench.”
Scotland’s morale is high after their 1-0 opening win against Haiti. Dykes acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming match against the Atlas Lions, who started their tournament with a draw against Brazil.
“Every match in this tournament is difficult. We need to take it one game at a time and enjoy the challenge. We have confidence in ourselves and in the group,” he said.
Playing in the World Cup is a dream for every football player, Dykes stressed, adding that, having faced many difficulties in the past, he knows exactly how tough it feels to miss out on such a major event.
The striker concluded that competing in a World Cup shapes a player’s character and helps develop their skills.
While Friday’s clash is sure to be a tricky assignment for Morocco’s Atlas Lions, the 2022 semi-finalists look a more complete side this year and are highly favored to win and confirm their newfound standing in global football’s emerging pecking order.
