The Republic of Ghana welcomes the historic initiative by His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the implementation of the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline, Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said Sunday in Lungi, Sierra Leone.
“We congratulate His Majesty King Mohammed VI on this historic initiative. Ghana is truly proud to be an active member of this initiative within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS),” the Ghanaian foreign minister told the press on the sidelines of the 69th session of the ECOWAS Conference of Heads of State and Government.
Ablakwa further stated that this gas pipeline has the potential to truly boost African integration, emphasizing the need to invest in infrastructure in Africa.
“If we want to industrialize our countries for the benefit of our people, we must invest in infrastructure,” he said.
The Summit of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS member countries hosted the signing, Sunday in Freetown, Sierra Leone, of the Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) governing the development of the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP) Nigeria-Morocco, an energy infrastructure project spanning nearly 6,800 kilometers designed to transport natural gas from Nigeria to Morocco, before connecting to the European gas network.
