Spanish Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska on Monday praised the “excellent” cooperation between Morocco and Spain in the field of road safety.

“The cooperation and coordination between Spain and Morocco in this area are excellent,” Marlaska told MAP on the sidelines of a meeting held at the United Nations headquarters on countries’ progress and responsibilities in achieving the goal of halving road traffic deaths by 2030.

The Spanish minister stressed that cooperation between Rabat and Madrid extends well beyond road safety, noting that “cooperation between our two countries is outstanding at every level.”

Marlaska also commended “important policies implemented by the Kingdom of Morocco in the field of road safety,” describing the progress achieved, stronger bilateral cooperation and the increased efficiency of the measures undertaken as “truly remarkable.”

The meeting, attended by Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh, was held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly High-level Meeting on Road Safety, which aims to accelerate progress toward achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Held on July 20-21 under the theme “Scaling up and accelerating implementation of commitments to halving road traffic deaths and injuries by 2030,” the meeting brought together international stakeholders to reinforce global efforts to improve road safety.
