The 32nd anniversary of Rwanda’s Liberation was celebrated Thursday in Rabat at a ceremony organized by the Embassy of Rwanda, attended by political, diplomatic and cultural figures.

Speaking on the occasion, Rwanda’s Ambassador to Morocco Shakilla K. Umutoni said the commemoration was an opportunity to reflect on the country’s journey since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, highlighting Rwanda’s transformation into a symbol of resilience, stability, good governance and one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies.

She also underscored the strong momentum in Morocco-Rwanda relations, noting that the exchange of visits of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Paul Kagame in 2016 marked a turning point in bilateral cooperation. Umutoni further expressed confidence that the two countries would continue strengthening their partnership in support of peace, sustainable development and Africa’s Vision 2063.

Guest of honor, Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah praised Rwanda’s political stability and socio-economic progress under President Kagame, describing the country as an “African success story.”

She also spoke of the strategic partnership between Morocco and Rwanda, built on an ambitious South-South cooperation covering key sectors including investment, agriculture, transport, health and energy, while stressing the two countries’ shared vision for Africa’s future.

The ceremony featured a video showcasing Rwanda’s development, along with traditional Rwandan music and dance performances celebrating the country’s cultural heritage.

Celebrated on July 4 each year, Rwanda Liberation Day marks the end of the genocide perpetrated against the Tutsi in 1994 and is a major milestone in the country’s history.
