African women’s leadership was spotlighted at the 5th Africanity Summit, which opened on Friday in Rabat, bringing together African diplomats and civil society stakeholders.
Initiated by the Africanity Trophy Foundation (FTA), this international gathering also gathers academic, economic and media figures from Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal, Niger, Mali, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso, Togo, the Central African Republic, the Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Chad and Burundi, as well as France and Italy.
In an address at the opening of this edition, FTA President Nasrallah Belkhayate underscored the importance of the theme of women’s leadership, given that 40% of Africa’s GDP is generated by women. He expressed the hope of seeing emerge, over the next decade, “an Africa where every young girl will have full confidence in her place in society and in the world.”
In this regard, Belkhayate expressed conviction that Africa, the world’s youngest continent in demographic terms and one of the richest in human and natural resources, possesses all assets needed to play a leading role on the international stage.
For his part, the FTA co-founder and world champion in artificial intelligence applied to trading, Mostafa Belkhayate, noted that women, through their capacity to create synergies and act collectively in addressing common challenges, possess considerable potential to support the continent’s major economic and social transformations, particularly in strategic sectors such as energy and innovation.
In turn, Director of Human and Social Sciences Sector at the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) Ramata Almamy Mbaye stressed that Africa’s future cannot be fully attained without recognizing, promoting and strengthening the leadership of African women.
For Chairwoman and CEO of Diana Holding Rita Maria Zniber, guest of honor of this edition, Africa has never lacked talent or resources. “African women’s leadership we are talking about today is not symbolic but rather strategic,” she said, noting that under the impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has made human development, South-South cooperation and African integration key strategic priorities.
The program of the 5th Africanity Summit, held until June 7, features thematic panels on “The Floor to African Women Leaders,” “African Leadership,” and “Women’s Leadership and Peace in Africa.”
