Morocco places humanitarian action at the heart of its foreign policy and African cooperation, in line with the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, said on Tuesday the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the AU and UNECA, Mohamed Arrouchi.
Speaking before the African Union’s Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC), Arrouchi said that the Kingdom has sought to place humanitarian action at the heart of its foreign policy and African cooperation, in line with the enlightened vision of HM King Mohammed VI, and in his capacity as the African Union Champion on Migration.
Morocco has spared no effort in helping to alleviate humanitarian crises wherever they occur across Africa, he stressed during an open session of the PSC on refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and humanitarian assistance in Africa.
The diplomat noted that Morocco’s humanitarian action is not limited to emergency aid or the establishment of field hospitals but is part of a broader vision focused on sustainable actions to support affected populations.
This approach also includes the fight against the effects of climate change and desertification, whose humanitarian consequences are already reflected in an increasing number of climate refugees on the continent, he added, noting that this approach is accompanied by a clear commitment to responsible governance of humanitarian action.
Arrouchi further stated that the aim is to ensure that the people concerned are themselves the beneficiaries of humanitarian aid, and that such aid is not diverted or exploited in ways that harm humanitarian efforts.
