Under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco is undergoing a “spectacular transformation” in all areas, President of the France-Morocco friendship group at the French National Assembly Hélène Laporte said.
This transformation affects the Kingdom’s infrastructure as well as its economy, institutions and public policies, she stated in an interview with MAP, noting that Morocco has gradually stood out as “a real crossroad between Europe and Africa”.
This ambition, said the Vice-President of the French National Assembly, is reflected in particular in massive investments in infrastructure, a particularly aspiring energy policy and important institutional and social reforms.
Laporte also welcomed “the recognized efficiency of Morocco’s counter terrorism policy.”
“Morocco has established itself as a leading player in the fight against terrorism, thanks to the experience of its intelligence services and an effective policy of prevention of radicalization,” she stressed.
In this context, the French deputy welcomed quality friendship and cooperation ties between Morocco and France, rooted in history.
“Morocco is one of France’s oldest and most stable partners outside Europe,” Laporte said, praising a dense and diversified economic partnership and “exceptional human ties” between the two countries.
“Our economies are largely complementary, and it is precisely this complementarity that we must continue to develop,” she said.
Referring to the role of parliamentary diplomacy in this momentum, Laporte said that the action of the France-Morocco friendship group is a useful complement to the action taken by governments.
“Our role is to maintain a permanent dialogue between the representatives of the two peoples and to promote a better mutual knowledge of our institutions and our respective priorities,” she explained.
“We ambition to bring a permanent parliamentary dialogue to life and to promote the exchange of good legislative practices between our two countries,” she added.
On the subject of global challenges, the French deputy stressed that Morocco is today “a strategic partner” of France on several major international issues, including security, climate change and migration issues.
In a context of crises in the Middle East, the Sahel and the Mediterranean, Morocco, she noted, emerges as “a key player in regional stability, with its role as a mediator and the quality of its relations with African countries as well as with the Arab world”.
On the issue of Moroccan Sahara, Laporte, who recalled her party’s steadfast position supporting the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, noted that “the decision taken by the French President in July 2024, recognizing that the present and future of the Sahara lie within the framework of Moroccan sovereignty, is an important clarification of the French position” which she welcomes.
She said that “this evolution has been reinforced by developments at the international level, in particular the resolution adopted by the United Nations Security Council on October 31, 2025, which represents a real enshrining of the Moroccan autonomy plan”.
In the same framework, Laporte stressed that beyond the diplomatic dimension, “this clarification comes with a remarkable development momentum in Southern provinces”.
The port of Dakhla Atlantique, representing nearly € 1.2 billion in investments, hydraulic infrastructure, desalination plants and major economic projects “testify to the considerable potential of this region, set to become a real gateway to West Africa”.
“This development is, in my view, a factor of lasting stability for the entire region,” she concluded.
