A delegation from Peru’s regional government of Piura, visiting Dakhla, expressed their impression on Tuesday regarding the notable development unfolding in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region. The delegation hailed the ongoing projects across various sectors during their visit, which is part of a parallel diplomacy effort aimed at strengthening relations between Morocco and Peru.

Led by Governor Luis Neyra León, the delegation aimed to gain firsthand knowledge of the diverse projects and reforms underway in Dakhla, with the intent to establish a twinning partnership between Piura and the Moroccan region, given its abundance of potential and varied assets.

Eduardo Castillo Rivas, a member of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, emphasized the importance of such twinning initiatives, highlighting their potential to bolster ties in agriculture, commerce, education, and culture between Dakhla and Piura.

The Peruvian delegation also voiced support for Morocco’s proposed autonomy plan, viewing it as a potential solution to the Sahara dispute, a sentiment echoed by Castillo Rivas within the Peru-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group.

El Khattat Yanja, President of the Council of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, underscored the region’s significant development across all sectors, attributing it to the implementation of an integrated development program inspired by the New Model of Development of the Southern Provinces.

Yanja emphasized the authorities’ commitment to enhancing the region’s attractiveness for both national and foreign investments, citing projects like the Dakhla Atlantic Port as catalysts for economic growth and positioning the region as a vital logistics hub for the Sahel and West African countries.

The delegation was briefed on major regional projects, including the Dakhla Atlantic Port, distribution and commerce zones in Bir Gandouz and El Guerguarat, and the West Africa Free Zone, alongside initiatives like seawater desalination for agricultural irrigation, during a presentation by Mounir Houari, Director of the Regional Investment Center of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab.

As a testament to the burgeoning cooperation between the regions, a twinning agreement was signed between the Council of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region and the Piura regional government, solidifying their commitment to bilateral cooperation across various fields.

During their visit, the delegation explored Dakhla’s cultural and industrial landmarks, including the local media library, the bustling port, and an industrial unit dedicated to the valorization of small pelagics, further enhancing their understanding of the region’s dynamic development landscape.
