The pan-African vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which underpins Morocco’s African policy, focuses on active solidarity and the promotion of peace, South-South cooperation, and sustainable and inclusive development, the Kingdom’s ambassador to Chile, Kenza El Ghali, said on Thursday.
The Moroccan ambassador, who was giving a lecture at the Faculty of Law of the University of Santiago de Chile, recalled that Morocco, historically committed to supporting African peoples in their struggle for independence, is continuing this dynamic today through equitable partnerships, structuring projects and a firm commitment to the stability and progress of the continent.
In the same vein, El Ghali highlighted the Kingdom’s role in preventing extremism and combating terrorism, particularly through the training of African ulemas within an institutional framework that promotes a moderate, open Islam adapted to African realities.
During this conference dubbed “Morocco’s African Policy : Solidarity and Commitment to the the Continent of the Future,” the Moroccan diplomat underlined Morocco’s humanist migration policy, commended by the United Nations, recalling the two regularization campaigns led in 2014 and 2017, which granted some 40,000 migrants, mainly from Sub-Saharan Africa, to enjoy a legal status and fundamental rights.
She also mentioned Morocco’s sustained efforts in the fight against illegal immigration, which have led to the foiling of more than 78,000 attempted crossings in 2024.
On the regional development front, Morocco’s ambassador highlighted the centrality of the Moroccan Sahara in the national African integration strategy, citing the Dakhla Atlantic port as an example – a structuring project intended to turn the Southern Provinces into a genuine gateway to West Africa.
El Ghali also recalled that the recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara is experiencing a significant progression internationally, mainly from countries such as Spain and France, and hailed Chili’s steadfast position, in support of the autonomy plan presented by the Kingdom, recognized as a serious, realistic and credible initiative with a view to a lasting political solution.
On the international front, El Ghali stressed Morocco’s commitment to the world’s just causes, particularly the Palestinian cause.
She underlined that the Kingdom is the only country to have succesfully sent humanitarian aid by land to Gaza, thus confirming the attachment of His Majesty the King, in His quality as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee, to defending the rights and dignity of Palestinian peoples.
