Upper House Speaker Holds Talks with African Parliamentary Leaders

Speaker of the House of Councillors Mohamed Ould Errachid held bilateral talks on Saturday in Marrakech with several African parliamentary leaders, focusing on ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and further develop relations between Morocco and countries across the continent.

The meetings took place on the sidelines of the 4th Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf Region, according to a statement issued by the House of Councillors.

Ould Errachid met with a number of senior parliamentary officials, including President of the Consultative Council for the Refoundation of the Republic of Niger Mamoudou Harouna Djingarey, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Djibouti Dileita Mohamed Dileita, President of the High Council of Local Authorities of the Republic of Mali Mamadou Satigui Diakité, and Speaker of the Assembly of the Union of the Comoros Abdou Moustadroine.

The meetings provided an opportunity to review the strategic initiatives launched by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in support of Africa, as well as their prospects for strengthening continental cooperation and integration.

Discussions also focused on bilateral relations and cooperation agreements linking Morocco with these countries, in addition to ways of enhancing South-South cooperation and expanding partnership opportunities, the statement added.

The talks highlighted the importance of Morocco’s role as a platform for African cooperation, as well as the need to strengthen collaboration and coordination among the continent’s parliamentary institutions.

Participants also underscored the growing role of the Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum as a privileged platform for dialogue, exchange of views and the promotion of cooperation among various African stakeholders and institutions.
