Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita received a delegation of American senators on Monday in Rabat.
During the meeting, the senators emphasized the importance of the US-Morocco bilateral ties as well as cooperation between the two countries at all levels – including security.
“It is very important for the United States to have the closest ties and the best relations with Morocco,” Senator Jerry Moran said, noting that his country is grateful for the “way Morocco operates in the world.”
Speaking about the value of boosting these ties, Moran described Morocco as a “provider” of stability and peace in the world.
Morocco and the US frequently express strong determination to boost ties, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in sectors like trade and security.
The high level meeting is part of an ongoing political dialogue between the two countries, prioritizing mutual interest.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken highlighted the importance of maintaining strengthened cooperation between the two countries in a recent meeting held in Washington with Bourita.
In the meeting, Blinken and Bourita spoke about military cooperation between the two countries, including the African Lion, the largest military exercise on the African continent.
“Morocco is an essential partner of the United States, and I highly value the relationship between our two countries,” said Blinken following the meeting that took place on October 1.
Bourita shared the same sentiment, noting that the US and Morocco are partners for peace.
Ties between the two countries further strengthened following the US’ historic recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces in Western Sahara.
Following the Blinken-Bourita meeting, the State Department issued a press release renewing its position on Morocco’s Autonomy Plan and described it as a practical solution to the decades long dispute.
“The United States continues to view Morocco’s Autonomy Proposal as serious, credible, and realistic,” the statement read.
