Morocco, Mauritania Hold 5th Joint Military Commission Meeting

On High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of FAR and Commander of the South Zone, co-chaired, on Tuesday in Rabat, with Major General Mokhtar Bolla Chaabane, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mauritania, the 5th meeting of the  Moroccan-Mauritanian Joint Military Commission.

This meeting, which testifies to the strength of the military cooperation ties between the Royal Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of Mauritania, is an opportunity for both parties to review the year 2024 and to decide on the activities to be included in the cooperation program for the year 2025, the FAR General Staff said in a press release.

On this occasion, the two military officials welcomed the excellent cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania and its positive record in various fields, notably security and defense, training and the exchange of experience and expertise.

They also stressed the need to further consolidate cooperation between the two Armed Forces in border security and the fight against immigration and illicit cross-border activities, thereby contributing to stability in the region and meeting common challenges.

On the same day, and on High Instructions of His Majesty the King, Supreme Commander and Chief of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government, in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdellatif Loudyi, received at the Administration’s headquarters in Rabat, Major General Mokhtar Bolla Chaabane, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Mauritania, the same source added.

During the meeting, both officials expressed their satisfaction with the excellent friendship and cooperation between the two countries, and reaffirmed their shared ambition and desire to consolidate these exemplary ties in the future.

Military cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, initiated in 1971, was crowned in July 2006 by the signing in Rabat of a memorandum of understanding on the creation of the Joint Military Commission to bolster bilateral ties in defense.
