The Republic of Guatemala and the Kingdom of Morocco share a strategic future-oriented vision, Guatemalan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Carlos Ramiro Martinez Alvarado, said on Thursday in Rabat.

“Our countries are united, not only by age-old ties of friendship, but also by a common strategic vision, future-oriented and founded on political dialogue, acting cooperation and mutual respect,” Alvarado underlined during a joint press briefing with Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

He welcomed the solid and excellent ties between the two “friendly, ally and partner” countries, underlining the importance of further reinvigorating bilateral cooperation, mainly in the political, economic and cultural spheres.

In this respect, he commended the strong all-round development momentum, underlining the importance for both parties of sharing experiences in priority sectors such as migration management, security, food safety and renewables.

The Guatemalan minister praised His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s regional and international Leadership, as well as the Kingdom’s pioneering role in Africa, under the enlightened Guidance of the Sovereign.

At a time when the two countries will be commemorating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2026, Alvarado welcomed bilateral consultations in international forums to promote peace and security in the world.

In this respect, he noted that his visit to the Kingdom would strengthen dialogue and cooperation between the two countries, under the impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo.

Speaking on the Moroccan Sahara issue, Alvarado pointed out that his country considers the Autonomy Initiative, presented by Morocco in 2007, remains “the only serious, credible and realistic basis” for progressing towards a lasting and definitive resolution of this artificial conflict, within the full respect of the Kingdom’s territorial integrity and its national sovereignty.
