Morocco is “one of Switzerland’s most important trading partners in Africa,” said Ambassador Ivo Germann, Deputy State Secretary at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) of the Swiss Confederation, on Thursday in Bern.
In a statement to MAP during a reception organized by the Embassy of Morocco in Switzerland to celebrate the 26th anniversary of the Enthronement of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Germann noted that “Morocco has been designated this year as a priority country in SECO’s new economic cooperation strategy”, a direction that reflects a clear intention to strengthen bilateral exchanges in key sectors such as infrastructure, tourism, and trade.
The Swiss official also highlighted Morocco’s role as a gateway to Africa for Swiss businesses.
He emphasized that economic relations between Morocco and Switzerland are both “stable” and “promising,” noting the potential for their development in a highly favorable context marked by major structuring projects in the Kingdom, including those linked to the 2030 World Cup.
In the same vein, Monika Schmutz Kirgöz, Deputy State Secretary at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), praised the quality of bilateral relations.
“We have excellent multidimensional relations with Morocco, covering areas as diverse as the economy, politics, research, and development,” the Swiss diplomatic official emphasized.
