The local authorities of the prefecture of Inezgane Ait-Melloul said that Royal Gendarmerie officers in Leqliaa were compelled, on Wednesday evening, October 1, 2025, to use their service weapons in self-defense, to repel an attack and an assault carried out by groups of individuals against the premises of the territorial brigade, in an attempt to seize ammunition, equipment, and service weapons belonging to the Royal Gendarmerie.
During this attempt, two persons lost their lives as a result of gunshot wounds, while others were injured while taking part in this attack, the same sources said.
The persons in question, organized into groups, took part in acts of violence and vandalism, throwing stones at the premises of the territorial brigade of the Royal Gendarmerie in an attempt to storm it, before security forces repelled this attack by firing, first, tear gas canisters, in self-defense.
However, after having reinforced their ranks with large groups of troublemakers, the assailants renewed their attack on the premises of the brigade, armed with bladed weapons, thus succeeding in entering and storming the building, seizing a vehicle and four motorcycles belonging to the Royal Gendarmerie.
They then set fire to the vehicle and to part of the brigade’s building, and started an attempt to steal ammunition, equipment, and service weapons belonging to the Royal Gendarmerie.
Faced with this dire situation, the Royal Gendarmerie officers were compelled to make use of their service weapons, in legitimate self-defense, in order to turn away the assaillants.
An investigation was commissioned under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to clarify all circumstances surrounding the event and identify all individuals involved in these criminal acts and establish the necessary legal consequences.
