The gaming industry is emerging as a lever for wealth and job creation, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid said on Wednesday in Rabat.
Speaking at the opening to the general public of the 3rd edition of Morocco Gaming Expo 2026, Bensaid stressed that the development of the gaming ecosystem relies essentially on human skills, highlighting the pivotal role played notably by banks and telecommunications companies in the development of this industry.
He also noted that the debate surrounding this industry is no longer limited to video games, but now revolves around “gamification,” indicating that sectors such as security, environment and healthcare are now concerned by the solutions that start-ups active in this field can provide, while also offering concrete alternatives for young people through job creation.
Morocco aims to achieve 1% of the global turnover of the video game industry, estimated at 300 billion dollars, by relying on its business incubators, he noted, adding that the ministry is committed to providing the necessary mechanisms to achieve this objective.
The opening ceremony was marked by a tribute to 12 Moroccan talents whose successful careers within global gaming leaders were highlighted, in addition to the screening of an institutional film showcasing the promising potential of gaming in Morocco.
On Tuesday, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan chaired the opening ceremony of the 3rd edition of MGE 2026, a key event for young enthusiasts, professionals and stakeholders in the gaming industry, organized from May 20 to 24 under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
Held in Rabat, this 3rd edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo supports the city’s designation as UNESCO World Book Capital 2026, in line with the Royal Vision of making the City of Light a cultural capital.
