Morocco is taking part, on July 11 and 12 in Mombasa, Kenya, in the proceedings of the second Policy Conference on the nexus between peace, security, and development.
The Moroccan delegation to this conference is led by the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Kingdom to the African Union and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Mohamed Arrouchi.
This Conference serves as a continuation of the first Policy Conference on the nexus between peace, security, and development, held in Tangier from October 25 to 27, 2022, which culminated in the adoption of the Tangier Declaration. The latter enshrined an integrated African vision of the nexus, based on the coordination of public policies, the strengthening of partnerships, and the implementation of concrete projects aimed at promoting sustainable peace, security, and development on the continent.
The Tangier Process is now asserting itself, at the continental level, as the primary platform for dialogue on the interdependence of peace, security, and development in Africa. It brings together the key continental and international partners engaged in this field, notably the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, the United Nations Development Programme, the African Export-Import Bank, and the African Development Bank.
This second Conference aims to assess the progress made in implementing the Tangier Declaration and to identify operational approaches to strengthen the nexus between peace, security, and development in Africa.
The proceedings are structured around five panels dedicated notably to the implementation of the Tangier Declaration through thematic projects, the role of artificial intelligence and youth-led innovations, the connection between security spending and development, the mobilization of financing for Nexus projects, as well as the lessons learned from the African Union’s support for complex political transitions.
On this occasion, the Moroccan delegation will highlight the Kingdom’s vision for an integrated approach to peace, security, and development, based on national ownership, the strengthening of partnerships, the execution of concrete projects, and the promotion of African solutions that respond to the continent’s priorities and realities.
