Morocco and Argentina are “natural partners” and their relations are stamped by the seal of “excellence”, former Argentina ambassador to Morocco Raul I. Guastavino stated.

In a statement to MAP on the sidelines of Friday evening’s presentation in Buenos Aires of the Alaouite Wissam of Order of Grand Officer, awarded to him by HM King Mohammed VI, the Argentinian diplomat felt that the two countries “have not yet exploited all possibilities available to them”.

“Our mission as diplomats, both Moroccans and Argentinians, is to get to know each other better in order to better exploit our respective potential”, Guastavino argued.

The former Argentinian ambassador cited the agricultural, medical-pharmaceutical and veterinary sectors, as well as renewable energies, among the “vast opportunities” to be exploited.

Other areas in which “Argentina can be a natural partner” for Morocco included liquefied gas, the automotive industry and biotechnology.

Reflecting on his five-year experience at the head of his country’s representation in Rabat, Guastavino said he had seen “a country that is progressing under the leadership of His Majesty (…). I encountered a prosperous country, an orderly society eager to progress and an open economy. I also discovered a country that is dynamic, open and, in a certain sense, very similar to Argentina”.

Like Argentinians, Moroccans are “a curious, open and hospitable people”, he recalled, saying he was impressed by “the great attachment of Moroccans to their roots and traditions”.

The Argentinian diplomat noted that “Morocco is an ancient country, which has existed for centuries, and has had relations with Great Britain since the 17th century. Argentina did not yet exist as a country at that time”.

Finally, Guastavino reiterated his thanks to His Majesty the King “for the great honor of receiving this recognition”, awarded to him by the Sovereign on the occasion of his forthcoming retirement.
