Morocco is well on track to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking at a government meeting in  Rabat, Budget Minister Fouzi Lekjaa said: “These projects are part of a long-term plan to get Morocco ready for major international events. Work with engineers will begin immediately to ensure we meet deadlines and quality standards.”

The nine stadiums, which will host AFCON finals, are set to be ready by August 2025.

Hassan II stadium in Benslimane – a major venue for the 2030 World Cup – will be completed by December 2027. The stadium will exceed FIFA’s requirements and is expected to be a flagship venue when Morocco, Spain, and Portugal co-host the global competition.

Lekjaa, who is overseeing the stadium projects, stressed that the government is fully committed to the success of both the AFCON and World Cup. “We’re fully dedicated to meeting every requirement to host the AFCON 2025 and the World Cup 2030, as instructed by the King,” he added.

Looking beyond, Lekjaa laid bare the long-term benefits these tournaments will bring for Morocco. “This isn’t just about hosting two big events; it’s about solidifying Morocco’s position on the global football stage and creating top-tier infrastructure for future generations.”
