Morocco has inaugurated a new production facility by Swedish engineering group Trelleborg at the MidParc industrial acceleration zone near Casablanca.
The facility marks Trelleborg’s second production site in Morocco, complementing its existing operations in Kenitra and reinforcing the country’s position as a growing hub for high-value aerospace manufacturing.
Swedish Ambassador to Morocco Frederica Ornbrant attended the inauguration ceremony alongside MidParc Chairman and CEO Hamid Benbrahim El Andaloussi, Minister of Industry Ryad Mezzour, and Trelleborg Group President and CEO Peter Nilsson, alongside industry stakeholders and government representatives.
The new industrial unit, launched on Tuesday in the presence of senior Moroccan and Swedish officials, represents an investment of nearly MAD 130 million ($13 million) and specializes in the production of sealing systems for the aviation and aerospace industry.
According to Mezzour, the project introduces new technological capabilities to Morocco’s aerospace ecosystem while supporting the national strategy to increase local integration within strategic industries.
“This unit, completed with an investment nearing MAD 130 million, specializes in manufacturing leak-proofing systems targeted at the aviation and aerospace sector,” the minister said, noting that the factory “adds new technological efficiency to the national ecosystem and develops innovative capabilities within the local value chain for the sector.”
The project is expected to create between 150 and 200 highly qualified jobs and contribute to the development of local suppliers by integrating Morocco more deeply into global aerospace supply chains.
This investment follows a memorandum of understanding signed between Morocco and Trelleborg during the Marrakech Airshow 2024.
Speaking at the inauguration, the minister said, “Morocco has become a competitive industrial hub with advanced capabilities and technologies,” adding that this investment reflects “the growing confidence of the Swedish Group in the industrial platform being built by the country under the wise leadership of King Mohammed VI.”
He emphasized Morocco’s strategic location and industrial competitiveness, describing the country as “a multi-sector competitive platform for developing the Group’s activities in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.”
“This plant will also supply the aircraft landing gear manufacturing facility with highly sophisticated components and will employ highly skilled Moroccan talent, of which we are very proud. Today, these competencies constitute the backbone of Morocco’s industry and innovation,” Mezzour further explained.
Trelleborg Group President and CEO Peter Nilsson said the new facility represents a strategic step in the company’s efforts to strengthen its presence in Morocco and support key aerospace clients operating in the Kingdom.
“I’m very happy to be here today, inaugurating this facility for us, a very important facility in Morocco, to establish ourselves locally and be able to support the very important customers for us here, like Safran, Airbus, and other companies,” he said during the inauguration ceremony.
